Multiplication and Division

Lam able to solve multiplication and division at level 3.

 1.    When Jasmine makes lemonade she uses 6 lemons for every litre of water. How many lemon’s does she need for

i)     2 litres of water?    12 - 6 x 2 = 12 - 6 doubled is 12.

ii)    3 litres of water?    18 - 6 x 3 = 18 - 6 tripled is 18

iii)   10 litres of water?  60 - 6 x 10 = 60.

2.   Devinda is doing some baking. When he uses his mum's recipe he can make 8 muffins. When he doubled the recipe he gets 16 muffins. How many lots of the recipe does he need to make

i)     24 muffins?     8 x 24 =?, 8 x 20 = 160, 8 x 4 = 32, 160 + 32 = 192.

ii)    32 muffins?     8 x 32 =?, 8 x 30 = ?, 8 x 10 = 80, I tripled 80 and it is 220, 8 x 2 = 16, 16 + 220 = 236.

iii)   56 muffins?     8 x 56 =?, 8 x 50= ?, 8 x 10 = 80, I doubled 80 five times = 400, 8 x 6 = 48, 400 + 48 = 448.  

Level 3 Addition and Subtraction

I am learning to solve addition and subtraction at level 3.

1.  Maraea is saving to buy a cat.  In 3 weeks she has saved $9, $56 and $72.

Show how to work out how much she has saved altogether.

$9 +$56 + $ 72 = ?  answer 137

$56 + $ 72 =  128    50 + 70 = 120   6 + 2 = 8   120 + 8 = 128

128 + 9 = 137   

2.  Tom saves his money each month to buy a dog.  In 4 months he has saved $36, $78, $203, and $123.  Show how to work out how much he has saved altogether.

$36 + $78 + $ 203 + $123 = ? answer : $430

So I added the 203 with 123 which equals 326 I used place value to solve this problem.

$203 + $ 123 = $326    $200 + $100 =$300 -  $20 + 0 =$20   $3 + $3 = $6

$300 + $ 20 + $6 = 326   -  326 + 114 = $440

I added 36 with 78 which equals 114 I also used place value to solve this problem. Now I have to added 326 with 114.

$36 + $78 =     -   $70 + $30 = 100  - 6 + 8 = 14 - 100 + 14 = 114

3.   Te Ao is saving to buy a horse.  So far she has saved $17, $160, $72, and $148.  Show how to work out how much she has saved altogether.

$17 + $ 72 + $160 + $148 =

$160 + $148 = 308 - 100 + 100 =       $308 + $89 = 397

$17 + $72 = 89 - 10 + 70 = 80 - 7 + 2 = 9 - 80 + 9 = 89

4.  Petelo has $ 147 as a present.  He spent $78 at the shop.  How much has he got left?

$147 - $78 = ?, 78 + ? = 147, 78 + 69 = 147

Fraction

A farmer is selling some of his animals.

1.  The farmer sells ¼ of his 72 cows.  Show how to work out how many cows he sell.

I know that 16 x 4 = 64 + 8 = 72    16 + 2  = 18  so I added 4 + 4 which equals 8 so 64 + 8 = 72

18 x 4 = 72 I know the answer is 18 because 18 + 18 = 36  18 + 18 = 36

36 + 36 = 72

60 + 12 = 72

How did you know it is 18 and not 17 or 16.  What make you choose 18.  What is the knowledge behind that.

2. He sells ⅓ of his 45 pigs.  Show how to work out how many pigs he sells.

I know that  13 x 3 = 39 + 6 = 45 I know that 15 x 3 = 45 so one third of 45 will be 15. To check my answer

15 + 15 + 15 = 45

10 + 10 + 10 = 30

5 + 5 = 10 + 5 = 15             15 + 30 = 45

Same here Genevieve.  How did you know it is 15.  

3.   He sells ⅙ of his 84 sheep.  Show how to work out how many sheep he sells.

I know that 15 x 6 = 90 - 6 = 84

14 x 6 = 84 so one sixth would be 14 I know because 14 + 14 + 14 + 14 + 14 +14 =

10 + 10 + 10 + 10 +10 + 10 = 60

6 x 4 = 24                    60 + 24 = 84

My Experience in the pool!!!

I can feel the excitement running through my body. Today was  Room 7’s first time in the swimming pool it was a wet experience. I swam with some of the year 8’s. We did all sorts of things like streamline, star float and also freestyle . I did freestyle with two other girls. I loved the last 4 minutes we had in the pool.

What do you think God wants from you? 
I think that God would want from me is to make sure that nothing bad will happen to anyone. I also think he excepts for who I am and to be myself.

The thing that is stopping me from doing what God desires is nothing. It is nothing because I know if I try my best in everything I do then it might make a difference.

My Face is a round kind of shape, I also have nice dark brown eyes.  I have wavy black hair. My passion is to play music on different kinds of instruments like on a marimba or a guitar. I love to communicate with others surrounding me. I am a very sportive person I play netball with my friends for the tournament.
